theory

Stuart Hall's reception theory
Communication is a process involving producers encoding products and the audience decoding them. There are three hypothetical positions from which messages may be decoded.

The dominant position- the encoders meaning is fully understood and accepted.
The negotiated position- The meaning of the encoders term is acknowledging and understood, although the message is adapted or negotiated by the decoder.
The oppositional position- The encoders message is understood but the decoder disagrees with it, reading it in a contrary or oppositional way.
Albert Bandura media effects theory
That media can implant ideas in the mind of the audience directly. Media representations of transgressive behaviour such as violence and physical aggression, can lead audience members to imitate these behaviours. Violence is prevalent in media so the audience sees violence as an acceptable way to deal with situations and people begin to model the behaviour.

Natural born killers is a violent film released in 1994. It got banned in Ireland due to its violence and was linked to the murder of bill savage.
The columbine shooters was influenced by the performer marilyn manson
George Gerbner cultivation theory
The idea that exposure to repeated patterns over a long period of time can shape and influence the way in which people perceive the world. Media messages are directly injected but are built up by a series of repetition and enforcing the message.

Steve Neale
Steve Neale states that genre is made of repetition and difference. Genre is defined by how much it conforms to the genres conventions and stereotypes.
eg:not another teen movie is a movie made with teen movie cliches but parodies them.

Boyz in the hood

first thing we are focused  on is the stop sign that is being zoomed in which could link to the idea of stop racism or black on black violence or violence in general and that most of the shots are long shots showing how disgusting the environment is as  we see bullet holes rubbish all over the streets and the fact that  are seeing kids who are suppose  to be  innocent and sweet but have a surprising understanding f the reality  of life as they go search for a dead body just  laying  in the street. Lots of transitions, the pace is quite fast and something is always going on as how it shifts from the street to school as we see the kids drawings showing violence The boy in the blue shirt has the most screen time and its seems as if this film is based around his life. the firs thing we here are to shooting and police radio showing how normal it s here  instantly putting us  in there world as we see and hear the shooting  and how often the police are there, There is also slow music through out the clip and it is non - diegetic. The music is parallel. You can see lots of emotion when the two boys are arguing in the class room as there is a lot anger and many disgraceful words are said to one another. which is a shock as they are just kids.

Representation

Disability
Region

Class
Age
Gender
Ethnicity
Sexuality

The first advert uses counter-type as its an old man wearing a dress and some nice Perls and it goes against male stereotypes as men don't wear dresses and pearls and heels and the fact that its an old man as well which also goes against the stereotype of them being really prejudiced against things like crossdressing.

this advert is a counter-type as goes against the stereotype of old people being incompetent and not able to understand the youth pr technology but the old person is able to to help his granddaughter feel better and also easily use the TV set very well.

camera shots

The different types of camera shots used when filming

premiere practice

For this task, we learnt how to use the premier for the first time. I had some random footage and audio and edited it together and used some special effects such as zoom and some special transitions and then added some random audio and made it suit the dancing animals and I also cut some of the footage up and used part of it and the cut it into some different footage as it would sift from dancing animals then into some dancing animals. very proud of my work :)

summer work

Media summer work
Summer task 1:
  • Uses Freddy Krueger as the cover to encourage fans of the movie franchise to come back.

  • The title of the movie is in red and written in scary font, targeting fans of horror.

  • Also targeting a horror audience with the main villain looking ominous and intimidating and his iconic look and status.

  • Uses dark shade of red which links to the colour most people would think about that associates with horror and has a dark background again targeting audiences of horror

Summer task2:
In the Deutschland trailer the director has edited to the trailer to cut in and out of the scenes going at a fast pace switching scenes as fast as a person can at what looks like to be suspenseful  points making it more interesting to an audience and has also edited it to start at the beginning and throughout the trailer we see the boy that the camera has focused on change and almost mature the director doing this to make us want to see the boy journey. The lighting throughout the trailer is very gloomy and lacking very bright colours giving a bit of dystopian vibes. The music is very retro and also ups the suspense being a loud clash of drums symbols which is followed by the flow of  an old speech playing from one of the old American presidents talking abouevil, having a sinister presence.
